  • The game can be considered Nintendo's answer to SEGA's Ultimate Genesis Collection on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Both games are compilations of the companys' most iconic games from their respective systems, and both games were developed by Backbone Entertainment.
  • This notably marks the first time the original versions of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light and Fire Emblem Gaiden were released outside of Japan.
  • The only NES Mario games not included in this compilation are Mario is Missing! and Mario's Time Machine, which were excluded due to being considered non-canon to Nintendo's NES library. Similarly, many popular third-party NES games such as Mega Man 2, Bomberman, Castlevania, and DuckTales were omitted due to licensing issues with their respective publishers.
  • The compilation can be played with a GameCube Controller, which is even recommended as the main controller configuration on the boxart.
